Seattle University is coming back to Division I.
The move signals a return to the big leagues of intercollegiate play and elevates the status of our athletics to match academics.
The transition from Division II to Division I—the highest level in NCAA action—involves all aspects of athletics, from basketball and softball to track and field, tennis and volleyball. Being competitive at the D-I level further positions SU as the premier independent university of the Northwest.
Division I will heighten the university's presence on a national level, allow us to strengthen our ability to recruit the best and brightest students, and build on a campus life that is active and engaging.
With the support of our alumni and friends, the move to D-I will allow us to showcase an environment of thoughtful, caring, urban and inspired learning.
In the words of President Stephen Sundborg, S.J., "Let's ride the wings of the Redhawks."
